The General City Election will be held for the purpose of electing the Mayor for a term of two years and three City Council Members (two four-year terms and one two-year term).
The first day for a candidate to file a Declaration of Candidacy is Monday, August 18, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. The candidate filing period for Declarations of Candidacy closes on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
Candidates for City elected office are required to file a Declaration of Candidacy with the New Plymouth City Clerk, accompanied by a nonrefundable filing fee of $40, or a Petition of Candidacy signed by at least five qualified city electors. Signatures on the Petition of Candidacy must be verified by Payette County Elections (1130 3rd Avenue North, Payette) prior to filing with the New Plymouth City Clerk’s Office. Declarations of Candidacy forms are available at City Hall during regular business hours, or at the link located at the bottom of the left toolbar.
Voter registration cards are available at the Payette County Courthouse and should be returned to the Payette County Courthouse. Last day for voter registration is Friday, October 10, 2025. After that time, voters may register at the polls. Registrants are required to provide photo ID as well as proof of residency.
Campaigning, including signs, is not allowed ON ELECTION DAY on private property within 100 feet of the polling place or on public property within 300 feet of the polling place.
Payette County conducts the election for the City of New Plymouth. Please check with Payette County for your polling place.
Campaign Finance Reporting. Idaho Code 50-420 provides for the application of the Sunshine law to City Elections for Mayor and Council in cities over 5,000 in population.
NEW VOTER REGISTRATION LEGISLATION
Beginning July 1, 2023, voters must have an Idaho Driver's License, Idaho Identification Card, US Passport or Tribal Card along with proof of residence (utility bill, tax notice, proof of insurance, etc.) in order to register to vote. You can no longer register to vote using an out of state driver's license or out of state identification card.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Registered voters may request an absentee ballot by completing and signing a request form and submitting it to the Payette County Clerk's office. You can also request the absentee ballot at voteidaho.gov. Voted absentee ballots must be received at the clerk's office by 8:00 p.m. on election day.
